My Dad and I are taking a trip to Lake Vermillion in late August. This will be our first trip to Vermillion. I was wondering how the fishing has been in recent years. Since this is our first trip there we would appreciate any tips or advice. I would also like to know if it similar to a Canadian Shield type lake without the deep water?

Hey Sam,
Yes, Vermilion is a lot like a Canadian Shield lake. And it does actually have a lot of deep water.... not REALLY deep, like 100+ feet, but there is a TON of wide open water 30 or more feet deep, and I believe at times the fish are out there quite a bit.
I don't claim to be an expert on Vermilion, but I've spent some time there and have some connections up there, so I might be able to help you out when the time gets closer. Give me a call any time, or we can talk about it at one of the meetings.
To give you a general "blanket statement" about the lake I would say this: Big water, big fish, lots of pressure. If you hit it on the right day it is one of the best fisheries on the continent, but it can quite often be a VERY tough lake!

Thanks alot. My dad and I won't be at next month's meeting but I'll get in contact with you when the time gets closer. By the way, I went with the Saltist and I love it so far.

Hey Dave,
We will be staying on the west end, but we will take any help we can get. Like I said we wont be at the July meeting but we should be at the August meeting so we can hopefully talk then, and if that dosn't work I'm sure we can figure somthing else out.
